"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

A Level Spanish Students Quiz Renowed Illustrator Quique Palomo

By Chloe P, Year 13

On Friday 18th November, the Year 12 and 13 Spanish A-Level classes had the incredible chance to have a Q&A session with Quique Palomo, a renowned illustrator who created the biographic comic, ‘Vida y muerte de Frederico García Lorca’ alongside Ian Gibson. This was a fantastic opportunity to ask Quique questions about Lorca, the author of our A-Level text ‘La casa de Bernarda Alba’ and about society during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s.

We all had the chance to ask interesting questions, such as how the contemporary political climate affected Lorca’s writing and what messages Lorca intended to portray through his play. The topic of the Spanish Civil War and the lives of people like Lorca are aspects of our Spanish course that we find extremely interesting, and we were grateful to converse with a professional. With Quique’s amazing expertise on the subject, we were all able to gather more interesting and useful information to not only bring to the classroom but also to provide us with thought provoking material which in turn has inspired all of us to explore Spanish society during this period more.

Furthermore, we were all extremely excited to meet Quique after reading the comic ourselves, and were able to ask him some burning questions on the making of the comic and Quique’s creative process. We are all grateful for this amazing opportunity and had a great time speaking with Quique and understanding more about the life of Lorca.
