A Trip Back to Tudor Times for Year 7 at Hampton Court
By Sofia B, Year 7
Year 7 enjoyed a great trip to Hampton court last week.
We were lucky to have a really helpful tour guide in our group who did lots of fun activities with us, including quizzing us on which Kings and Queens were Catholic and which were Protestant as well as testing us on naming all the monarchs in the Tudor times.
My favourite part was visiting the kitchens as they looked exactly like it would have been back in the Tudor times when they cooked up to 800 meals a day! I found it really interesting to learn how they cooked on an open fire and put the meat on massive skewers to cook it. The baskets they used for so many things were fascinating and with help of Mrs Collins, we learnt that the basket is the only thing not machine made in England to this day. I loved walking through the passages that were made of cobblestones when we walked from room to room, as it felt like we really were in the Tudor times!
I also really enjoyed seeing the Great Hall as it had very big and beautiful stained glass windows that were filled with all sorts of colours and huge 500 year old tapestries that told the stories of the Old Testament kings. On the tables there were some facts about how and what people used to eat in Tudor Times. It was fun to see the difference between the grand chairs that the Kings and Queen would sit on compared to the basic benches the workers would have to sit on. We also found out that the smaller the room the greater the political importance of the tapestries.
Overall I loved the whole trip and it was a really fun day out!
