"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

BBC Book Clubs Power Ahead in Virtual World

This term, the Year 7, 8 and 9 Book Clubs are taking to the Google Meet screens for a virtual version of our popular BBC Book Clubs. BBC stands for Breakfast Book Club because when we are at school we meet at 8.00 am, though this term we are meeting at 2.30 pm on a Friday!

Year 9 were first up, discussing “This Is Going to Hurt” by Adam Kay. Shreya mentioned that her mother was a doctor, and thanks to it being a virtual club, she took her Chromebook down to the kitchen to her Mum who also joined in the discussion, making it even more fun! It turned out that Shreya’s Mum had been a junior doctor at roughly the same time as the author, so she was able to verify everything that he said was true!

Another bonus of a virtual book club was that everyone was able to show each other their book shelves at home so we were able to pick the next book based on what books we had to hand and the inspiration from seeing what everyone else had been reading.

Year 7  all gave the thumbs up to “The Knife of Never Letting Go” by Patrick Ness, at their session last week, while Year 8 will be tackling ‘Pigeon English’ by Stephen Kelman on the Friday after the Bank Holiday.
