Biodiversity, the Earth and everything – Year 7s visit the Natural History Museum
By Mr Jenkins, Head of Physics
On the 16th of January, Year 7 students went on a science trip to the Natural History Museum. During the visit they had time to explore the museum’s Blue, Green, and Red Zones. The students were able to learn about the diversity of life across the Earth, from the prehistoric era to the present. They also learnt about the Earth’s structure and discovered about geology and including phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanoes.
The students also attended a workshop titled ‘How Do We Monitor Biodiversity?’ which was a particular highlight. It provided them with hands-on understanding of the methods scientists use to track and preserve biodiversity in animals. During the session, the girls completed their own research where they used digital microscopes to identify and classify a range of animals.
