BUDS 2024 Session 4 – From Gory Eyes to Tricky Characters
By Mr Fernando, Assistant Head (Co-Curricular and Partnerships)
The summer term got off to a great start last Saturday with the fourth session of our BUDS programme.
BUDS is our Saturday enrichment programme aimed at Building Understanding, Developing Skills in gifted and talented Year 5s at Christ the Saviour C of E Primary, Selborne Primary, Montpelier, North Ealing Primary, Little Ealing Primary, Green Dragon Primary, Stanhope Primary, Blair Peach Primary and St Vincent’s Primary schools. With a focus on Science, English, Maths and Creative Thinking, pupils will learn the soft skills required to be able to think creatively, solve problems and express their own ideas.
STEM – Gory Eyes
How do our eyes work? Are sheep eyes the same as human? How is a camera like a human eye? Children are invited to examine these questions and dissect an eyeball from a similar organism to see how it works! They will be continuing to investigate our eyes in the next session.
Public Speaking
Students delved into speech styles, honing their ability to engage audiences effectively. With a warm-up generating 30 ideas, they refined creativity before delving into recognising and adapting to different styles.
Creative Thinking – Resolving Character Problems
Students discussed how in the best stories, characters need to resolve their internal problems to resolve the problems of the world around them. And in doing so, realise how everything is connected!
Huge thanks to our Sixth Form helpers Amelia, Nanthana, Nirupama, Priya, Tehreem and staff members Ms Absoud (STEM), Ms Vannini (Public Speaking), Mr Rosolen (Creative Thinking) and Mr Parker (Estates).
