BUDS 2024 Session 3 – Using Tiramisu as a Moon Surface, ‘Just a minute’ and Protagonists & Antagonists!
Our third BUDS session on March 2nd was an energetic one with both the local primary school pupils attending and our own Year 12 helpers starting the day with some lively Back Street Boys’ karaoke (as chosen by the Year 5s!)
The public speaking sessions were left by Salem and Teya from Year 12 and these involved building confidence using games. The groups enjoyed playing games such as ‘Just a minute’ where students spoke about a singular topic for 60 seconds with no deviation or hesitation, before moving on to practicing their debating and articulation skills.
In STEM, we questioned why is the surface of the Moon pitted? Why are there patterns of stars? We looked at differently sized and weighted objects to create impact creators using tiramisu as an experimental moon surface!
Finally, we focused on protagonists and antagonists – the heroes and villains of our favourite stories. What makes a “good guy” and a “bad guy”?
A big thanks to everyone attending and to all those leading the sessions, including Sixth Form helpers Amelia, Freya, Iris, Nanthana, Nirupama and Tehreem. We can’t wait to see you all back next month again!
BUDS is our Saturday enrichment programme aimed at Building Understanding, Developing Skills in gifted and talented Year 5s at Christ the Saviour C of E Primary, Selborne Primary, Montpelier, North Ealing Primary, Little Ealing Primary, Green Dragon Primary, Stanhope Primary, Blair Peach Primary and St Vincent’s Primary Acton schools.
