Charities Update April 2023
By Mrs Johnson, Charities Co-ordinator
During the final week of the Spring term we hosted our Annual Charity Art Fashion Show 2023 organised by our Year 12 Art Reps and Art Department. Taking inspiration from the theme of Architecture, the Art Reps chose to support a local west London charity, The Upper Room, who help and support people struggling with homelessness. We were delighted to announce that we have raised over £800 for the charity.
The first half of the summer term will see Year 7 fundraise for their chosen charity, Cancer Research. Last week the Year 7s held a bake sale and a Sweet Olympics earlier this week. They are also looking forward to a Star Wars themed event on May 4th with a fantastic Multicultural Fair on May 12th. There will be a final bake sale on 22nd May.
Year 10 enrichment continues this term with students helping the local park rangers and going out to local care homes to do coronation-themed crafts with the residents while our choir is busy practising singing ‘God Save The King!’
We are at the planning stage for several upcoming events, including organising a craft and games afternoon for child refugees at their hostel through Care 4 Calais, while Year 10 have been discussing ideas for the annual summer party for children attending the Log Cabin in June. We are also hoping to run a collection for old textbooks to send to Books 4 Africa, following the success of our previous book drive for them back in 2021 where we sent over 420kg of books to Nigeria!
Before half term we are looking forward to Just One Tree Day on 24th May. The Just One Tree foundation is a Non-Profit Organisation that is working towards removing CO2 from the atmosphere through global reforestation projects. For each £1 raised, a tree is planted.
During the whole of the summer term Charity Reps Abbi, Rithi and Harinee will be continuing with their Summer Babies Birthday Bonanza, where students give a donation to them to go and surprise a friend on their birthday with singing and dancing. Watch out for more surprises from them!
After half term, our attention will turn to fundraising for Days for Girls on 5th June. The charity educates girls in developing countries about hygiene, menstruation, reproduction, self-defence and human trafficking. On 12th June we will be taking part in another book drive, this time for the Children’s Book Project. We will also be marking World Refugee Week from 19th June with activities and fundraising. Finally, Big Sisters (Year 12s) will be doing a sponsored walk with their Little Sisters (Year 7) in Pitshanger Park in aid of The Log Cabin.

Looking even further ahead, we are delighted to announce that we will be running in the Ealing Half Marathon to fundraise for The Log Cabin, one of our designated local charities. We have had a parent-staff team running in the event since 2018 which this year takes place on September 24th. We would love to welcome parents of any ability to join us – from first timers to seasoned pros! This year we are going to be joining training sessions in Pitshanger Park with parents and coaches from several other local schools every Wednesday from the end of April all the way up to the event. If you would like to get involved, please fill out the Google Form sent out on School Comms on 25th April, or get in touch with us. Thank you for your continued support and generosity!
