"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Charities Update – Harrow Club Laptop Appeal and Year 9 Raises Money for Beat

While we may not be running all our charity initiatives in the school building at the moment, our Charity and Volunteering Reps have been hard at work behind the scenes with Miss O’Connor and Miss Johnson working on a number of exciting projects this half term!

Harrow Club Laptop Appeal

The Harrow Club are looking for laptops to help their members take part in remote learning. At NHEHS in the Senior School, we are very fortunate to each have our own chromebooks or laptops, which means we can access our live google meet lessons with relative ease. This isn’t the case for everyone, however, as one of the senior Harrow Club members said:

“I come from a big family and we share a 3-bedroom flat. We have one tablet that I have to share with my sisters and we all need to be online at the same time. I’m using my phone when I can to join lessons… but I can’t see the work…so I don’t do it…I’m finding it really hard. I’m bored all the time, and getting in trouble. If I had a laptop I would share it with (one of) my sisters.”

It is so important that we support our community in times of difficulty as we are experiencing now. Please help us by either donating a laptop (can be up to 7 years old) or by donating money towards the club buying new laptops.

So far we have raised £1446 and donated two laptops, an iPad and two  printers. Thank you! If you would like to donate a laptop, please email Miss O’Connor here. To donate money to the campaign, please click here

 Year 9’s Charity – Beat

This half term is Year 9’s turn to raise money for their chosen charity. They are certainly not letting the lockdown hold them back! They are raising money for Beat – a charity which supports individuals suffering with eating disorders, a problem sadly that can be exacerbated due to the current situation.

They would love for girls and their families to get involved with their three activities to help Beat. If you would like to donate to this great cause, please see here.

They have held Among Us Tournaments for Year groups 5, 6 and 7.

Their main initiative is #MoveForBeat: Year 9 challenged us all to join in their quest to travel 235 miles from school to the Beat Head Office and back to school again before half term by walking, running or cycling. This was so successful that now we are confident we can cover 1000 miles between us instead! Check out the latest #MoveForBeat posts on our Instagram. Do join in and share your photos with us by tagging @nhehsgdst!

Year 9s and Miss O’Connor will also be hosting a Staff/Parents Quiz on Wednesday 10th February at 6pm, sign up here – information about the quiz will then be sent to those who sign up on Tuesday 9th.

Song for Ealing Hospital

Mr Shoults and Year 12’s Hannah Safi delivered hundreds of our thank you letters to Ealing Hospital staff just before the Christmas holidays. After hearing how much those staff appreciated our letters, we wanted to follow up by recording a song for them to try and lift their spirits in what has been a really tough second wave. We are encouraging girls from the Junior or Senior Schools to get their families together to sing a line (or more!) of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake which we hope to collate and send over to Ealing Hospital. Sign up here to get involved!
