Charities & Volunteering Update – March 2024
The end of term may be very close but we have a jam-packed last two weeks of charities and volunteering initiatives to fit in first!
Charities
This half term it’s Year 8’s turn to run their charity fundraising activities. They got off to a chocolatey start on Monday with a popular Lunchtime Easter Egg hunt. Following a very close vote between three organisations, they have chosen Girl Up for their charity. Girl Up is a leadership development initiative welcoming girls and youth of all gender identities to advance gender justice worldwide.
This week we held a fun Pi Day! Our Maths Reps ran Pi related activities at lunchtime, including a Pi Recital and Pi bracelet making, with money raised going to the UK Maths Trust.
Tomorrow is Red Nose Day so we are encouraging students and staff to come in wearing a red jumper or t-shirt in exchange for a donation to the charity. Our Sixth Formers are also holding a sleepover in aid of their charity, Umunandi, a small UK charity supporting a school in a slum area of Lusaka, Zambia in Africa. The school provides free education to orphans and vulnerable children alongside paying pupils.
Next week we are looking forward to hosting our annual Charity Art Fashion Show on Thursday. This year there is a tropical theme, so our Year 12 Art Reps have decided to support The Rainforest Trust.
Next week is also Neurodiversity Week. Mrs Hall, Head of SEND, will be organising a Neurodiversity bake sale for London Autism Group Charity on Friday.
Charity Collections
From Monday 18th through to Wednesday 20th, we are running collections for Care 4 Calais and Ealing Foodbank. Please bring Easter Eggs for Care 4 Calais and food donations for the Foodbank bank to the upper atrium. Suggested donations for the Foodbank are: Cereal (but not porridge), instant hot chocolate and non-dairy UHT milk (soya, oat or almond). Thank you.
Volunteering
As part of Year 10 volunteering enrichment, students took kaleidoscopes down to North Ealing Primary School, coinciding with Science Week. Year 5 pupils from North Ealing will be coming to NHEHS on Monday, where our Year 12 volunteers will take them over to our science labs where they will enjoy a Biology lesson on onion cells. Thanks to Ms Brown for teaching these lessons.
Before the end of term we will also be visiting the Care 4 Calais supported hostel in Hayes with our group of volunteers, to run craft activities with the children to celebrate Easter and Nowruz (Iranian New Year). We will also be distributing the Easter eggs donated by students.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
