"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Charity Art Fashion Show Raises £800 for The Upper Room

Our Art Reps & Art Department were thrilled to hold the Annual Charity Art Fashion Show 2023 in the final week of the spring term!

This year we drew inspiration from the theme of Architecture, the fusion of architecture & fashion is widely documented. Fashion designers over the decades have been widely influenced by the creativity of architectural design. Taking influence from the post-Mid-Century era of Brutalism which celebrated grandeur & geometric forms to the intricate details from the Gothic and Romanesque period, we see influence on our global catwalks which encapsulate design drawn from architectural genres throughout history.  Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Luis Barragán are not names you would typically associate with fashion runways, but new collections from brands like Phillip Lim & Milly are drawing inspiration from these iconic architects.

For 2023 we chose to support a local west London charity, The Upper Room, who help and support people struggling with homelessness. We were delighted to announce that we have raised over £800 for the charity.

Entry to the Fashion Show was open to all years, while our Year 9 Art students also took to the catwalk, showcasing some of their class work. Ms Di Paola’s class took inspiration from the theme of iridescence complemented by vibrant colour palettes, while Miss Cagnino’s class shared some very stylish & well-structured outfits created from sustainable cardboard. Mrs Fisher-Black’s class drew their inspiration from repeated patterns & geometric shapes, with designs incorporating a range of translucent, textured & metallic materials.

With amazing creativity from all our designers, it was difficult for our judges to pick winners, but the judging panel selected the following:

1st Caterina C, Alice N & Jaya I (Year 7)
2nd Maddy H (Year 9) & Cosima L-D, Ciara S, Anokhi B & Anastasia B (Year 7)
3rd Nairi C, Orla P (Year 10)

A big thank you to our wonderful judges – alumna, freelance fashion editor, stylist, art director and writer, Antonia Kraskowski, Terence Nolder, an established Fashion designer who has won the British Fashion designer of the year and Frances Baker, Establishment Director for River Island.
