DT Reps Create Award Trophies for the GreenSTEM Challenge
Our two DT reps Anjali K and Emmi AN were tasked with creating an award for the GreenSTEM challenge final! They were given complete creative freedom to design and produce the award. The awards, which also light up when plugged in, were presented to students from the seven schools taking part in the academic research project at the Natural History Museum at the end of March.
Here’s how they made the fantastic awards in their own words:
“We found inspiration from the endless possibilities and concepts within science, leading us to create a colourful LED light changing trophy for the GreenSTEM competition. The base comprises of an LED strip, with a button to one side, allowing for varying colours and modes, and a Micro USB on the other side to power the strip.
In making the trophy itself, we wanted to incorporate all of the sciences in a cohesive design. The combination of the plant, atom and conical flask show highlights of all the sciences in the trophy. We used CAD/CAM technology to draw and cut out and engrave our design using a laser cutter.”
