Here be dragons! As part of their Medieval Magic topic, Year 2 were treated to an inspiring visit from best-selling children’s author and illustrator M. P. Robertson on Wednesday 27th September.  

The interactive workshop started with a talk on where Mr Robertson finds his inspiration and how a story idea develops from a scribble to a picture book. Full of stories, props and a lot of fun, the girls were captivated. 

A demonstration breaking down a drawing into simple stages helped build their artistic confidence, then pupils assisted Mr Robertson to invent a weird and wonderful new creature on the interactive whiteboard. Finally girls picked up their pencils and unleashed their imaginations to create their own beasts.  

Mr Robertson has written 12 picture books, including the best-selling Egg series, as well as illustrated countless other fiction, non-fiction and novelty children’s books. 

We are so lucky to have him visit the school each year to fire up our Year 2 pupils with excitement to be writers and illustrators, before writing and drawing for themselves over the coming weeks.
