From ‘Danceoke’ to Dissecting Eyeballs! Session 5 of BUDS Partnership Programme
By Mr Fernando, Assistant Head (Co-Curricular and Partnerships)
Last weekend we held our fifth Session of our Year 5 partnership programme, BUDS, at school. From crafting their own scripts to meticulously planning and giving balanced speeches, and even delving into the fascinating world of anatomy through dissecting sheep eyeballs, our students revelled in an enriching experience.
Kicking off the session with infectious energy, our exceptional Sixth Formers led a captivating ‘danceoke’, igniting a spirit of movement and camaraderie among all students. I am always impressed with the enthusiasm these students bring to these sessions, which is essentially a Saturday School!
Pupils investigated how do our eyes work, are sheep eyes the same as human and how is a camera like a human eye by dissecting an eyeball. In public speaking we learned how to improve our speech styles, exploring strategies for improving speech delivery, voice modulation, body language and engaging with an an audience. We also delved into script writing – discovering the art of scriptwriting through deconstructing beloved British films and TV shows. We analysed plot, characters and dialogue to gain insights into storytelling techniques and develop our own unique writing styles.
Many thanks to both colleagues who ran the sessions – Ms Brown, Mr Rosolen and Ms Absoud and our fantastic team of Year 12 helpers!
With just two sessions remaining, I am filled with anticipation for the continued growth and achievements that lie ahead for our budding talents. Together, we are fostering a community of learning, empowerment, and endless possibilities.
