From Horror Movies to Snakes – Year 8s Present Their Learning Amazon Journeys
On Tuesday 27th June, six Year 8 students presented their Learning Amazon journey to the year in the recital hall. They had spent the term independently exploring a question, doing research, following their own leads and creating a presentation with their discoveries.
The Learning Amazon Challenge project is run outside of lessons and supported by weekly sessions. It aims to help students to think more deeply and critically, enjoy finding out about a topic not covered in the curriculum, and to be self motivated in their learning.
Diverse topics were covered with titles including: ‘How do fairy tales impact our lives?’ by Lexie S, ‘Why do we watch horror movies?’ by Emily B, ‘Why have we forgotten women’s achievements and discoveries and remembered men who took credibility instead?’ by Esha K, ‘Is astrology a science?’ by Anahita, ‘The Mandela Effect’ by Anna J and ‘Do snakes deserve their bad reputation?’ by Edith J.
Well done to these students who have carried out such great research and created interesting presentations.
