Impressive Turnout at Intermediate Physics Challenge
By Ms Motyer, Acting Head of Physics
Well done to over 20 students from Year 11 who signed up for the Intermediate Physics Challenge last week! I was very impressed with your enthusiasm and approach. The competition, organised by The British Physics Olympiad (a charitable trust in association with Oxford University), is for the top physicists in the country to encourage them to develop their problem solving skills. The Intermediate Challenge is a single, one-hour paper that is suitable for Year 11 students (GCSE, Standard Grade or equivalent level). The paper includes multiple-choice and short answer sections that aim to test students’ knowledge and understanding of basic physics principles. The paper is suitable for students who have studied GCSE Science + Additional Science or GCSE Physics or equivalent. Over 6000 students take part in the competition each year. More on the challenge itself here.
Here’s what Rhea took from the experience:
“This was the first time I took part in the Intermediate Physics Challenge. Overall it went well, there were some challenging questions, however I love problem-solving and the satisfaction you feel when you think you’ve got the right answer! The competition made me learn how to approach such stimulating questions and think deeper outside of the box. I will definitely take part again next year for the Senior Challenge!”
Keep up the great work, Rhea, Abha, Lara, Nanki, Selena, Anvi, Yar, Klea, Zara T, Zara B, Charlotte, Eliza, Vysali, Parisa, Zoe, Alice J, Isabella, Sakeena, Sia, Asha, Melisa and Anna H!
