"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Inspiring Innovation: DT Reps Invite Entrepreneur for Sixth Form Lecture Series

By Emmi AN and Anjali K, Year 12 DT Reps

As part of our DT Rep roles, we invited Anna McKay, the co-founder of Zeez, to speak to Sixth Formers and staff on Tuesday 23rd January. Ms McKay discussed how she designed and developed the ‘sleep pebble’, a product that aids those with difficulty falling and staying asleep, starting from making three products a day using just a kitchen oven to manufacturing each product using a 3D printer.

Ms McKay also spoke about the marketing process and some of the struggles she endured of maintaining a business throughout the pandemic and what she did to recover from the setback.

Zeez’s research shows 70% of users who were surveyed said they had significant and substantial improvements; they fell asleep faster, woke less and had more energy in the daytime. In terms of DT, the sleep pebble is a smooth great-looking product with a real world use and proven demand.

This was such an interesting and intriguing talk, and both staff and students were very fascinated by it, asking many questions. It showed us that with dedication, persistence and innovation we can achieve what we put our minds to. We are excited to see what the future lectures will be about!
