Into Africa – Year 2 Drumming Workshop
As part of their IC topic ‘Into Africa’, Year 2 took part in an African drumming workshop on Thursday 18 May to introduce positive views of Africa and challenge stereotypes. Non-profit community-interest group African Activities held the interactive workshop in St Stephen’s Church.
The girls had a wonderful time learning songs and playing drums, shakers, bells and wooden xylophones, as well as dancing, jumping around like gazelles and hearing authentic cultural stories about Africa. Acting as the ‘Marvellous Middle’ of this term’s topic, the workshop creates high levels of engagement to drive the girls’ self-motivation to learn during the next phase, which will be introducing Anansi stories to English lessons.
