"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Just One Tree Day 2024

By India and Anjali, Year 6

On Wednesday 22nd of May, NHEHS celebrated Just One Tree Day, a project run by the charity ‘Just One Tree’. The project was set up to raise money to plant trees, kelp forests, and mangroves around the world. The impact that this project has had is awe-inspiring: they have planted 3,050,742 trees, restored 1516 acres of woodland, removed 927,838 tonnes of CO2, in 11 countries, over 36,000+ days.

The main goals of the charity are to regenerate forests, restore the planet as nature intended, increasing biodiversity on land and in the sea, improving lives in the communities that they plant in, raising environmental awareness in classrooms and of course tackling climate change.

After school, some girls watched the movie ‘Rio’, for two pounds (which went towards planting trees). The main message from this movie is the importance of being loyal and never giving up when you love someone or something.

As well as the movie after school, we had the choice to wear green clothes also to raise money for trees. Green clothes could have been the colour green, or second-hand clothing from maybe older siblings or family members. Overall, this was a very impactful day and we enjoyed raising money and awareness for deforestation.
