Launch of Art History Meme & Recreation Competitions
Our Year 12 Art History Reps, Florence and Grace launched two fun competitions last week to get us into the creative spirit during isolation.
The first competition is a meme one. Choose any form of artwork (it can be a painting, sculpture or building), then put it into a meme format of your choice with your own funny and original caption.
For their second competition, students have to choose any artwork, put your spin on it and recreate it!
The deadline for entries is Sunday 17th March. You can enter as many times as you want and as a team, if you are able to do it virtually somehow! There are prizes available and the reps are hoping to be able to create a virtual gallery from the entries.
Art history was also at the forefront of our minds as the department held their excellent virtual assembly led by Ms Farmer and our two reps.
Grace shared her tips for great things to watch during isolation – Grayson’s Art Club (Channel 4) and Next in Fashion on Netflix. She also recommended some fantastic virtual tours and exhibitions, including Andy Warhol at the Tate, Picasso at the Royal Academy and a whole tour of The Louvre. If you are feeling more creative, Grace suggested Bob Ross fon YouTube for fun painting tutorials, while Colossal is a brilliant resource for articles on art and ideas for recreating artwork (get some inspiration for our competition!). Florence explained the format of the competition and encouraged girls to get their entries in by May 17th.
Head of History of Art Ms Farmer spoke about the huge role that technology has had in our appreciation of art, not just today but in the past too.
