“Margaret Thatcher in 10 Documents” – Y13 Virtual History Trip
Class 13A experienced a ‘virtual school trip’ on Friday 1st May. The National Archives hosted a live screen talk entitled, “Margaret Thatcher in Ten Documents.”
The class were fascinated by this insight into the archival material, as well as the intriguing marginalia from Thatcher’s own hand. Documents including her bill for the refurbishment of No. 10 were particularly interesting – she was emphatic in wanting to reuse her own ironing board (the ‘Ironing Lady’!).
Following a Q&A via the ‘chat’ function with the lecturer, class 13A then stayed on our google meet until 4 pm that Friday to discuss their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities lockdown is presenting historians and archivists alike.
