Mrs Conway Donates her Rapunzel Hair to The Little Princess Trust
Over half term, Mrs Conway, who teaches Year 3, donated 14 inches of her hair to The Little Princess Trust, who make real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer or other conditions.
It costs £550 to provide a young person with a real hair wig and, as they are also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK, they need are support more than ever. Financial contributions to the charity have dropped 75% through April and as a charity that does not employ any paid fundraisers, they rely on the public’s amazing support to continue giving Hair and Hope to thousands of children with cancer.
Here’s Mrs Conway’s (or, as a lot of the senior girls will know her, Miss Jaszczolt’s) story:
I decided to donate it last year as my hair has always been my security blanket and I had a family friend lose all of their hair through cancer treatment and I thought to myself how lucky I was to still have all of my hair and what could I do to pay my good health, and good condition hair forward. So I went to donate it last winter, when it was mid-way down my back and the hairdresser said as it was in such good condition, I should try and grow it longer to make my donation even more useful. So that’s what I did, with two trims along the way to keep the ends tiptop. Then I was all set to donate 14 inches and at a stretch go up to 17 inches, so long as it could still be tied back, but the hairdresser was very persuasive and I ended up donating 18 inches.
The general feedback is that I look more mature (which apparently is a good thing!) and that it suits me, and I have inspired my nieces to grow their own hair long for the same cause.
Mrs Conway has exceeded her target of £550 (at the time of writing she had raised a brilliant 109% against her target) but if you would like to donate to this fantastic cause, please click here.
Thank you for your support!
