Musicians Look Forward to Virtual Concert Performances
Our Music Department have been very active in the virtual world this term. Yesterday afternoon, Miss Dunne led the first ever Tea Time Concert, in which girls from all years and levels performed a solo piece live. This was an excellent event and opportunity for girls to perform a piece that they have been learning, and for some, a piece they were due to play in an exam in a few weeks. It was also a lovely way for friends to see each other.
On the theme of socialising with our friends, last week the Music Society hosted a musical viewing together, the beautifully-scored ‘Flowers for Mrs Harris’. More events and activities of this kind to follow next half term!
Extra-curricular groups have been busy (Senior, Chamber and Harmony choirs, as well as session orchestra, and rock band). The groups will be featured, alongside solos and other ensemble pieces, in the virtual Summer Concert on June 23rd, which we are very much looking forward to. In addition, we are also offering a drop-in session for students of all levels for Music Theory. And of course, individual music lessons from our visiting specialist music teachers are continuing virtually, with 350 lessons a week!
Look out for the GDST-wide Song Contest, which takes place next Friday May 22nd. Our winning entry will be announced shortly to compete with 24 other GDST entrants and these submitted video performances will be broadcast in a live stream to GDST girls around the country.
