Resounding Success for the GreenSTEM Programme at Natural History Museum
The end of the spring term saw the conclusion of this academic year’s GreenSTEM programme with students giving excellent final presentations at the Natural History Museum on March 28th.
It was inspiring to witness 51 students from seven different schools engaging in this academic research project.
Under the masterful guidance of Imperial College London PhD Academics, Ariane Dellavalle and Ugo Legendre students collaborated in eight groups; one student from each school, to produce not only a research paper but also an impressive presentation. The quality of their presentations and academic papers were exceptionally high, considering these students are only in Year 12.
Huge thanks to both of our Academics, who kindly gave up their time to work with these students and also judge all the essays and presentations.
Thanks also to the teachers of the following schools who gave up most of their evenings and end of term drinks to support these students! Cardinal Wiseman School, Dormers Wells High School, Drayton Manor High School, The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, Greenford High School, Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet and of course the Natural History Museum.
We were also delighted to present the Green STEM Awards designed and produced by two of our A Level DT students, Anjali K and Emmi AN.
Feedback from teachers and students has been very positive.
Mr Fernando said of the academic project, “it is incredible when we can work together with other schools and elevate educational standards and intellectual curiosity. Together we can make a difference!” Ms Haines, Head of Chemistry – Greenford High School, said of the programme “as always a very precious experience for our students.”
Students described the project as engaging, enriching, challenging, exciting, very rewarding and fun.
“It’s really helped me in being able to research topics I had no idea about and figuring out how I get work done best. It’s also helped me gain confidence in public speaking and taught me a lot about working in a group.” – student from Drayton Manor High School
“Exposed me to an environment different to that in my school and pushed me beyond my comfort zone.” – student from Ellen Wilkinson School
“I was able to broaden my research skills and gain communication skills. I am also more prepared in public speaking and preparing a presentation.” – student from NHEHS
Well done to everyone taking part!
