Smoothies and Pizza for Year 3
As part of the ‘Feast or Famine’ IC topic this term, ‘Chef Ferguson’ and ‘Chef Parker’ from ‘The Great Norland Nutrition Off’ visited Year 3 last week. They demonstrated safe food handling and hygiene practices as they made smoothies in front of the classes.
The chefs reminded the girls about why it is important to follow a recipe and keep track of the amount of each ingredient that went into their creation, using terms such as “half a punnet”, “75 grams”, “three tablespoons” and “twelve strawberries”. The girls then chose to sample two shop bought smoothies and compare the tastes, as well as designing some packaging for their own smoothie product.
As the Marvellous Middle event for this topic, Year 3s then visited Pizza Express to make their own pizzas and continue learning about food handling and hygiene skills. They loved eating their creations back in the classroom afterwards!
