Virtual German Society Goes from Strength to Strength
We are pleased to report that the NHEHS virtual German Society has taken off very well this term and is going from strength to strength!
Organised and led by our fantastic German Rep, Elizabeth in Year 12, the fact that we are now doing everything remotely has not taken away from the fun and engagement of the students participating.
Lizzie had the idea to put together a survey to find out what the, mainly Y10, students, would be interested in and are hoping to get out of attending the club, and so every week will now have a focus point based on the outcome of the survey.
So far, it seems that incorporating a competitive element in form of a quiz seems to work wonders in terms of engagement and motivation. Students have covered lots of questions based on cultural facts, ranging from the origins of the German anthem to popular German music (‘99 Red Balloons’ by Nena) to films such as ‘Das Leben der Anderen’ (about time in the former East Germany) as well as some questions about politics.
Next week will be dedicated to a Q&A session in German, due to the fact that the orals are not far off – perfect timing!
