Volunteering Day – Supporting Eight Charities
To celebrate our 150th anniversary, we committed to a whole school volunteering day with every student participating. Students supported 30 local community activities throughout the day, including visiting care homes, primary schools and parks. We welcomed over 200 visitors into school, to enjoy science lessons, sports activities and concert performances.
We were delighted to support eight charities during the day, ranging from a 10 mile walk for Amnesty to a fair for our Ealing Mencap visitors led by Year 9, who entertained our guests with crafts, games and music.
Year 10 hosted their annual party for 21 children from The Log Cabin with singing, games, food and fun, while Year 8 volunteers made the journey to Northfields to help out with gardening at the charity itself.
Year 8s travelled to Hayes to lead activities (colouring, crafts, games) for under 5s who are supported by Care 4 Calais. In Junior School, girls from Years 2-4 made their own bags for gifts for the children supported by the charity, which included handmade chatter boxes, paper planes with a message inside, origami figures, cards and poems.
Further afield, Year 8s and 10s made their way to the Salvation Army in West Ealing to help sort and prepare packs for their baby bank, while some Year 12s went to Acton Homeless Concern to help out with donations.
Back at school, we heard a talk from Mrs Troy from the charity Days For Girls before students wrapped packs of essential items from a school collection for the charity and Sanitation for Sisters.
Year 7 also heard from Miss Lindsay about the charity Young Minds Matter, with students creating to redesign their logo and marketing materials.
