Y10 Teams Achieve 2nd & 3rd Places in Inter-School Maths Feast Competition
By Ishita N, Year 10 Journalist Leader
On Monday, some of the Year 10s got to kick off Maths and Science week with Maths Feast which was hosted here at NHEHS this year.
Maths Feast is a competition run by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme where you get to compete with other schools and solve mathematical problems in different formats as a group. Schools from all over Ealing and beyond came to take part and it was exciting to be surrounded by like-minded peers who enjoyed pursuing maths outside of lessons too. The other schools competing were Guru Nanak Sikh Academy, Gunnersbury Catholic School, Chiswick School, Drayton Manor School, Bishopshalt School and Bishop Ramsey School.
The competition consisted of four rounds, with challenges such as trying to work out the value of pi and a relay where one pair in a group had to solve the first question before the other pair could work out the next question. The unique structure of each round made it difficult to get the hang of at first but the experienced Year 12s marking our questions gave us some great advice on how to rise to the challenge and our two teams, ‘Root 9’ and ‘Difference of Too Scared’, ended up coming 2nd and 3rd respectively! We loved being able to tackle problems that we wouldn’t come across in the curriculum and it really challenged us to think outside the box and work together on different tasks to come to a final solution.
Thank you so much to the Maths teachers for organising the event, it was lots of fun!
