Y11 Take Inspiration at London Design Festival
On the 22nd of September, the Year 11’s and A level DT Students went to the London Design Festival. First we went to the Design Museum in South Kensington where we first went to the World of ASMR exhibition. There were many different screens playing different ASMR sounds, with headphones that we could wear to accompany them. There was also an interactive part of it, where we could brush different items onto a microphone and hear it through the headphones. Following that, we went to see the Design Maker User Exhibition, where there were many helpful and interesting products for our research. Alongside this, the exhibition walked us through the process of creating a product as we went along it.
Afterwards we went to Cromwell Place, which is where university students can showcase their art. The art there was incredibly interesting, having a bed made out of paper, or a chair made out of graphite with a pillow that, despite not being graphite itself, looked as if it was. We went to the World of Colour exhibition which was an experience of bright and fascinating colour, which produced some wonderful pictures.
To continue through the day, we went to the Conran Shop, a design shop with a unique blend of products and designs. It had a multitude of products that were incredibly innovative and interesting, my favourite being the fish vase. We found many products that were helpful for our research and I very much enjoyed the inventive designs it had.
To end the day, we went to the V&A for some temporary exhibitions they had for the London Design Festival. There were many, however my favourite was the Materials Experiment. The people there were moulding liquidised copper in glass vases, and over time as the copper cooled, the glass vase cracked. It was really interesting to see how the glass slowly cracks due to the oxygen reacting with the copper. The exhibitions at the V&A were a lovely way to end the trip.
