"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Sixth Form Lecture Series – The Philosophy of Action, Marxism and Materialism

By Meghna R, PRE Rep

Our fortnightly series of inspirational talks for Year 12 and 13 by eminent speakers from all walks of life got off to a great start this term. These inspiring examples expose students to a diverse range of perspectives and lived experiences across a broad range of topics.  The lectures are organised entirely by our Sixth Form Subject Reps and are open to Year 12 and 13s.

We kicked off 2022 with an excellent online lecture on Tuesday. For our Religious Studies lecture slot, we were lucky enough to bring in and hear from Professor David-Hillel Ruben, professor emeritus of Philosophy at Birkbeck, University of London and PhD in philosophy at Harvard University. We were given a very engaging university style lecture on his key area: Philosophy of Action as well as a brief insight into the work of Karl Marx and Marxism in philosophy (his PhD subject). We were able to get a grasp of extremely interesting material which the majority of us had not come across before. A big thank you to Professor David-Hillel Ruben for sharing his knowledge with us.

Our next lectures on February 1st will be organised by our Design & Technology and Music Reps. Click here to read more about our previous lectures.
