Sports Update – January 14th 2022
Despite the cold weather, the new year has got off to a great start for the PE department as we’ve been back in full sporting action on the clubs, training & fixtures front.
This week we heard the fantastic news that Mia C in Year 11 has been selected into the England Hockey Performance Centre as a Goalkeeper. Congratulations Mia!
Team of the week were the U12 & U13 Waterpolo teams for beating a mixed Ibstock team in their fixture 8-7 on January 13th. Well done to all our players!
We played host to Kew House School netballers on January 10 & 11th with matches for our U12 A & B & U13 A-C teams. Our teams did us proud winning all the games – the U13A team won 21-11 (MVP Olivia M), the U13B 27-2 (MVP Minna W) & the U13C 37-0 (MVP Aliyah K-P).
For the U12A game we put out a B team & took the win 10-6. Well done to everyone especially Hannah D (player of the match) & Elizabeth O, Jojo & Ellie for strong performances too. For the U12B match we put out a D team. Well done to Nina for getting the opposition’s player of the match & Lisa for getting PoM from NHEHS. A great result to start the new year!
Our U14A hockey team drew 0-0 away at St Augustine’s Priory in their first match of the term.
Sports Leadership Workshop January 10th
We are very proud of our students who coach or officiate at sport both inside & outside of school. To mark this, our Instagram and Twitter accounts are featuring a ‘Star of the Week’ on their Twitter & Instagram.
We also ran a Sports Leadership Workshop on January 10th. Here’s what Gen P (Year 11) took from the afternoon:
The sports department, recognising the range of pupils involved in leadership and coaching inside and outside of school, organised a Sports Leadership workshop at the beginning of the term. This took place after school and took the form of an interactive talk that covered areas, such as: active risk assessments, dealing with difficult athletes, and how to use language and gestures when explaining drills and activities. It was a really informative session and I really appreciated the support Mr Henderson and Ms Scott gave us. Thank you very much to the sports department!
