Students Record Songs in the Lyric Hammersmith
By Tilda J, Year 10 Journalist Leader
At the end of last term a group students in Year 10 were offered the opportunity to record two songs in a recording studio in the Lyric Hammersmith as part of their enrichment activities.
On Tuesday the 14th of December the small group departed from school grounds early to take the tube to Hammersmith, with excitement (and group renditions of Hamilton songs) palpable in the air. After many weeks of practicing and live performances as part of the weekly enrichment projects, which use two periods on a Tuesday afternoon for enriching activities that rotate on a termly basis, the students were ready to see inside the recording studio for the first time.
Located inside London’s beloved Lyric Hammersmith, home to professional plays, pantomimes and much more, the recording studio was split into a singing and recording section. It was here that the Year 10s sang both a cover of ‘Price Tag’ (originally by Jessie J) and ‘Shallow’ (from the movie ‘A Star Is Born’ and sung by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper) in three part harmony.

Unlike their previous performances, this required the group to record each part individually in several takes before the wonderful Lyric Hammersmith staff put them together and took them to be edited.
One student said, ‘It took a while to adjust to the professional mics and headphones, but it was so much fun!’ After hours taken to perfect each track, the day ended with pupils and teachers listening to the finished result together.
‘It was a wonderful experience and we can’t wait to hear the recorded songs again! Thank you to the Lyric,’ commented one of the pupils.
