"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Tennis Teams Serve Up Success

By Nina J and Mr Bennett, Director of Sport

LTA Schools Team Tennis

This year,  we achieved a significant milestone by competing in Division 1 of the LTA schools league. The U13 team particularly excelled, securing victories in five out of their six matches. This outstanding performance underscores their dedication and skill in a highly competitive environment. We eagerly await the final league standings to see where our team places overall. Additionally, our senior team made an impressive run to the regional semi-final of the Aberdare Cup, showcasing our school’s strength across different age groups and competitions.

Thrilling Finals in “Play Your Way to Wimbledon” Tournaments

We hosted the LTA “Play Your Way to Wimbledon” tournaments, featuring singles and doubles competitions for Years 7 to 9 and Years 7 to 13 respectively. The singles tournament concluded with an exhilarating final between Abby G and Emily C, where Emily emerged victorious. She will now advance to the county finals, aiming for a spot in the national finals at Wimbledon. In the doubles tournament, Abby and Emily teamed up to claim victory over Nina J and Nina R in a closely contested match. Their outstanding performance continued as they became area finalists, narrowly missing the chance to compete at Wimbledon.

Strong Showing at Independent Schools National Tennis Championships

Representing our school at the Independent Schools National Tennis Championships at Eton College, six pairs of our students achieved remarkable success. They secured victories against strong opponents from prestigious schools such as Queen Anne’s, Hymers, RGS Newcastle, Cranleigh, King’s Warwick, St Mary’s Calne, Brentwood, and Felsted. This event highlighted their talent and sportsmanship, setting a high standard for future competitions.

Impressive Performance at the GDST Tennis Rally

The tennis season concluded with our team delivering a strong performance at the GDST Tennis Rally hosted by Queenswood School. Finishing in 5th place overall, our players competed against top teams from across the GDST.

Memorable Year 10 Trip to Wimbledon

Year 10 students enjoyed a memorable trip to Wimbledon this term. They secured tickets for Court 2, witnessing thrilling matches featuring world-class players such as Casper Ruud, Fabio Fognini, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Stan Wawrinka, and Gaël Monfils. This inspiring experience of watching top-level tennis up close was a perfect conclusion to an exceptional tennis season, motivating our students for future achievements in the sport.
